Kayla, the visionary, face and owner of the Kasana, brings her passion and 10+ years in the beauty and wellness industry. Our name is a nod back to her involvement and extraordinary efforts to bring this concept to life.

Sana, is the Latin root word “to heal.” Healing is at the foundation of this place. From healing ones skin, to spirit, to body and hair - One should leave Kasana feeling rejuvenated and whole.

Meet our Founder! - Kayla Thorsell

Kayla is a seasoned professional in the world of hair and beauty, having honed her skills while working for Paul Mitchell as both a teacher and artist. With over 500 fashion shows under her belt and a reputation for excellence, Kayla’s expertise extends far beyond the salon chair. Her foundational understanding of healing principles enhances her approach to skincare, allowing her to provide clients with comprehensive care that nourishes both hair and skin.

Transitioning to the American Crew Cutting Team, she brought her passion for education to a new audience, opening up shops and sharing her knowledge throughout the Pacific Northwest. Her deep-rooted belief in the healing properties of quality ingredients informs her skincare recommendations, ensuring that clients receive the best possible treatment for their individual needs.

In 2017, Kayla found her home at Heritage Barbershop, where she played a pivotal role in establishing one of Portland's premier traditional barber shops. Here, she not only continues to refine her craft but also emphasizes the importance of maintaining healthy skin and hair, integrating her extensive experience into every service she provides.

Embracing her more holistic side in 2022, Kayla fulfilled her dream of opening her own brick-and-mortar establishment, where she now offers a unique experience that includes holistic facials, guided meditations, and phylisybin therapy. This blend of Celtic Shamanism, polarity therapy, energy release, therapeutic touch, and classic barbering reflects her commitment to comprehensive wellness. With her unique vision and dedication to holistic practices, Kayla continues to make waves in the industry, honoring her witchy roots every step of the way.
